The Foundation Presents a Breakout Session on the Engagement of Pro Bono Volunteers at the 2009 Accelerating Social Entrepreneurship Conference
On May 4, 2009, the Accelerating Social Entrepreneurship (ASE) Conference was held in Washington, D.C. at George Washington University. Entitled "How Technology is Knocking Down Doors and Fueling Social Innovation", the conference addressed technology and the role it is playing in social innovation. The Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation was a co-sponsor and presented a breakout session at the event.
Over 200 individuals were in attendance at the ASE conference, including representatives and leaders from the different facets of the American social sector. The conference featured remarks by David Gergen, a professor of public service at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government, a director of the school’s Center for Public Leadership, and a recognized political commentator and social entrepreneurship advocate, as well as Stephen Goldsmith, Vice Chairman of the Corporation for National and Community Service.
During the first breakout session, Dave Roll, Associate Director of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation; Gretchen Van der Veer, Director, Office of Leadership Development and Training for the Corporation for National and Community Service; and Eleanor Rutland of Venture Philanthropy Partners participated in an interactive panel discussion on "Effective Engagement of Pro Bono Volunteers."
