Dave Roll Makes Presentation at the 2009 Knight News Challenge
On June 17-19, 2009, Dave Roll, Associate Director of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, made a presentation to the 2009 Knight News Challenge winners and networked at the Future of News and Civic Media Conference. Both events were hosted by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation and held at MIT in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The 2009 Knight News Challenge is the third round of the five-year, $25 million News Challenge, an international contest to fund innovative ideas that develop platforms, tools and services to inform and transform community news, conversations and information distribution and visualization. The nine projects announced as the winners of the 2009 Knight News Challenge were recognized for developing innovative ideas that use digital media to deliver news and information to communities in new ways. The Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation is currently working with the Knight Foundation to help provide pro bono legal services to the Knight News Challenge winners.

The Future of News and Civic Media Conference, which was also hosted by MIT's Center for Future Civic Media, brought together past and present Knight News Challenge winners, media innovators, and community leaders. The Center for Future Civic Media supports research at MIT to innovate civic media tools and practices and test them in communities. It is a joint effort between the MIT Media Lab and the MIT Comparative Media Studies Program, and it is made possible by a grant from the Knight Foundation.
