Pamela Hartigan, Member of Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation's Board of Advisors, Co-authors New Book: The Power of Unreasonable People
A growing group of entrepreneurs around the world are developing and operating new ventures that prioritize social and environmental returns. Innovative, resourceful, practical, and opportunistic, these individuals are also deemed unreasonable, in that they refuse to follow conventional business or social development models. Instead, they are coming up with new ways to combine markets and meaning, and remarkably, they are succeeding in areas where most businesses currently dare not go.

In a new book, which will be released in February 2008, The Power of Unreasonable People: How Social Entrepreneurs Create Markets that Change the World (Harvard Business Press) co-authors Pamela Hartigan and John Elkington describe how these unconventional entrepreneurs are working at the fringes of the current dysfunctional system and providing clues to tomorrow’s revolutionary business models.
Through inspiring stories, including the tale of Dr. Venkataswamy's Aravind Eye Care System, the book identifies how these entrepreneurs are solving some of the world's most pressing economic, social, and environmental problems. It also shows how these pioneers are disrupting existing industries, value chains, and business models — and in the process creating fast-growing markets around the world.
