Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation’s Board of Advisors Attend 2008 Lex Mundi Regional Conference in Miami
Eight members of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation’s Board of Advisors attended the Lex Mundi North America Regional Conference, which was held in Miami, Florida, on January 31- February 2, 2008. The Board of Advisors consists of distinguished leaders of the international social entrepreneurship movement who provide expert guidance and advice to the Foundation on its activities, strategic plans, and financial support.
The Advisors in attendance at the conference were: • Brizio Biondi-Morra — President of Avina and President of the Board of INCAE, the leading business school in Latin America • Charlie Brown — Executive Director of Ashoka's Changemakers • Mary Chaffin — General Counsel, Corporate Secretary, and Risk Manager of Mercy Corps • Cheryl L. Dorsey — President of Echoing Green • Pamela Hartigan — Managing Director of the Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship • Kurt Hoffman — Director of the Shell Foundation • Ann MacDougall — General Counsel of Acumen Foundation • Barry B. White — Former Chair of Lex Mundi and Partner at Foley Hoag LLP
On Thursday morning, the Board of Advisors met with Lex Mundi’s Board of Directors to discuss the Foundation’s current and future projects. Later that afternoon, the Advisors and the Foundation’s staff engaged in a freewheeling discussion about the Foundation’s strategy and financial sustainability. On Friday, the Advisors presented a panel discussion moderated by Barry White that addressed what a "social entrepreneur” is, how these individuals can be an effective force for positive social change, and what the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation and Lex Mundi member firms can do to help them in their endeavors.
