Providing pro bono legal support to social entrepreneurs comes naturally to Carrie Garber Siegrist, an attorney in the nonprofit tax-exempt organizations practice of Lex Mundi member firm for USA, Indiana and Minnesota, Faegre Baker Daniels LLP. Since joining FaegreBD more than two years ago, Carrie has already provided assistance to 12 of the Foundation’s social enterprise clients seeking expert nonprofit counsel while maintaining her own practice, evidencing a truly impressive commitment to the Foundation’s mission!
One example of Carrie’s came when the Foundation connected her with one of our social enterprise clients called OneDollarGlasses USA. Carrie provided formation and tax-exemption counsel for their U.S. entity and continues to advise the organization as it scales the model developed by EinDollarBrille in Germany.
Carrie’s passion for service to those looking to solve the world’s most challenging problems has been a lifelong commitment. Prior to entering private practice, Carrie served nonprofits and social entrepreneurs as the Senior Program Officer of the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation, Counsel with the Public International Law and Policy Group, and as the co-founder of Cambodia’s Children Education Fund. In law school, Carrie worked with the United Nations Committee Against Torture Project in assisting review of states parties’ compliance with the UN Convention Against Torture. Prior to law school, Carrie taught fifth grade with Teach For America in the Bronx for two years.
“Each day as an attorney in FaegreBD’s nonprofit organizations practice, I am able to provide tax, corporate, and political law assistance to nonprofit tax-exempt organizations allowing them to further their critical missions,” Carrie shared.
“Of all the ways to contribute further to our communities, I dedicate my pro bono time to social entrepreneurs from the Lex Mundi Pro Bono Foundation because doing so allows me to leverage the expertise from my daily practice for these amazing organizations. I am immensely thankful that the Foundation continues its critical work of connecting those working to address the world’s most challenging problems with expert transactional counsel around the world.”
The Foundation is fortunate to count on the support of such inspiring professionals like Carrie and her colleagues at Faegre Baker Daniels. She is one example of the many exceptional Lex Mundi member lawyers dedicated to global social impact!
