Referred by:

Jurisdiction(s): PA
About the Organization: mRelief aims to transform social services for the inherent dignity of all. Since 2018, mRelief has helped more than 4 million people by unlocking over $1.7 billion in SNAP benefits.
Legal Entity Type: Nonprofit/Charity
SDG(s): Zero Hunger
Legal Issue(s):

Benefits Data Trust (BDT), a large Pennsylvania-based non-profit that does similar work to mRelief, closed their doors on August 24th. At first, they invited organizations like mRelief to apply to be considered to take over certain projects/assets. The mRelief team started the process, and ultimately signed an NDA. However, the BDT team then decided that they would no longer continue their work and began working with the PA Attorney General to dissolve. The mRelief team is now seeking a consultation to discuss whether there may still be a way for them to apply to receive some of BDT’s assets. Importantly, BDT had several multi-year contracts with various state governments that mRelief would be well suited to take over. The mRelief team would like to better understand (at a high level) whether it is possible for them to take over these contracts and what steps they would need to take in order to do so.
