Ahaana Ventures

Guidance on Impact Investing

Summary:

Assist a nonprofit supporting the entrepreneurial ecosystem in South Asia by providing guidance on the implications of making impact investments and providing capacity building assistance from a nonprofit entity vs. a commercial structure like an LLC.

Jurisdiction(s): U.S.
About the Organization: Ahaana Ventures is committed to building a more diverse, inclusive, and environmentally sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystem in South Asia. Leveraging their entrepreneurial expertise and global networks, they provide catalytic social and financial capital, strategic advisory support and leadership coaching to women founders and other historically underrepresented entrepreneurs, enabling them to drive positive social and environmental change in their communities and beyond.
Legal Entity Type: Nonprofit/Charity
SDG(s): Decent Work and Economic Growth, Gender Equality, Good Health and Well Being, Life on Land (sustainability of ecosystems), Reduced Inequalities, Sustainable Cities and Communities
Legal Issue(s):

The Ahaana Ventures team is seeking a consultation to determine the most appropriate legal structure to make early-stage impact investments and provide other venture-building support to social enterprises in South Asia (primarily India). The organization has already incorporated a 501(c)(3), but would like to understand the short and long-term implications of making impact investments and providing capacity building assistance from the nonprofit entity vs. a commercial structure like an LLC. In particular, Ahaana Ventures is looking for a lawyer/firm with experience with impact investing structures that are investing internationally (i.e. non-profit impact investment funds; DAFs; early-stage angel networks/funds; micro-VCs; venture studios).
