One of Asia Initiative’s flagship offerings is their Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) program. Through this program, individuals perform a social good, earn SoCCs (which have point values), and redeem these credits in exchange for goods or services. By way of example, through their existing international programs, participants can plant trees, send girls to school, mentor peers or perform other acts of social exchange. In exchange, they earn a certain number of SoCCs for each activity, which can be redeemed for low interest loans, skills empowerment training, and other critical resources. Asia Initiatives is now looking to bring their Social Capital Credits (SoCCs) program to the United States. They plan to provide grants to third party organizations to implement the programming. The Asia Initiative’s team is now seeking guidance on whether there are any limitations on the types of conditions they can include in these grants. They are particularly interested in whether they can require certain activities of individuals through their grant funding (e.g., can they require an individual to attend a class in order to receive a SoCC credit).
