Energy Allies

Assist with Winding Down Nonprofit

Summary:

Assist a non-profit working to ensure that the communities most impacted by climate change lead local clean energy solutions by helping with winding down/dissolving their current entity.

Referred by:

Jurisdiction(s): U.S. (registered in NJ)
About the Organization: Energy Allies’ mission is to revolutionize the energy system by ensuring the communities most impacted by climate change lead local clean energy solutions. They do this through community-led community solar projects in which a group of dedicated community members called a Community Advisory Board (CAB) make all project development decisions. Working with CABs ensures decision-making power lies with those who live and work in areas commonly excluded from community development and sustainability initiatives. This work is coupled with energy justice education and outreach in the communities they work with in Massachusetts and New York.
Legal Entity Type: Nonprofit/Charity
SDG(s): Affordable and Clean Energy, Climate Action
Legal Issue(s):

After much consideration, Energy Allies has decided to dissolve and transition their operations and core staff to a larger non-profit that does similar work. The Energy Allies team expects to be able to complete their open projects/grants/deliverables prior to the transition. Now, they are seeking assistance from an attorney to help with the winding down process. They want to ensure they are shutting down correctly and making the transition as seamless as possible. The team would ultimately like to dissolve the entity around September.
