Consultation on Becoming Independent 501(c)(3)

Summary:

Assist an organization supporting communities in being heard by the federal government on methane gas decisions by providing a consultation on becoming an independent 501(c)(3).

Referred by:

Jurisdiction(s): U.S.
About the Organization: The Center for Oil and Gas Organization (COGO) works with those most impacted to increase accountability and pressure on energy regulators. They are advancing the power of the people to move America towards energy solutions that are truly in the public’s interest.
Legal Entity Type: Nonprofit/Charity
SDG(s): Affordable and Clean Energy, Climate Action, Reduced Inequalities
Legal Issue(s):

The Center for Oil and Gas Organizing (COGO) is currently fiscally sponsored. They are now considering spinning out and becoming an independent non-profit. They are seeking a consultation to discuss the process, whether it is appropriate for them to spin out at this time, and whether a 501(c)(3) of 501(c)(4) best fits their needs. Should they move forward, they would also appreciate assistance setting up the entity itself. However, this is a secondary request.
