Summary:

Referred by:

Jurisdiction(s): U.S.
About the Organization: Factchequeado is a non-partisan initiative focuses on providing quality journalism, accurate information, and tools to empower Latino and Hispanic communities against disinformation in their native language and increasing platform accountability. Through fact-checking, media literacy ( training and resources), and collaboration with local media and grassroots organizations, they aim to bridge the information gap and empower Spanish-speaking communities to navigate the media and digital landscape more effectively.
Legal Entity Type: Nonprofit/Charity
SDG(s): Gender Equality, Good Health and Well Being, Partnerships to achieve the Goals, Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, Responsible Consumption and Production
Legal Issue(s):

Factchequeado is in the process of becoming an independent 501(c)(3), based in California. Previously, their work was part of a pilot program spearheaded by two other non-profits, Chequeado (based in Argentina) and Maldita (based in Spain). There are seven independent contractors in the United States supporting Factchequeado’s work. They currently have contracts with the Argentinian non-profit, Chequeado.

Now, the Factchequeado team is seeking guidance reviewing the contracts with these individuals and updating them to comply with U.S. law. They would like these contractors to work under Factchequeado, rather than Chequeado.

  • Assistance from a Spanish-speaking attorney is preferred, but certainly not required.
