Provide Consultation on Transitioning Independent Contractors to New Entity
Assist an organization empowering Latino and Hispanic communities against disinformation by providing a consultation on transitioning independent contractors to a new entity.

Factchequeado is in the process of becoming an independent 501(c)(3), based in California. Previously, their work was part of a pilot program spearheaded by two other non-profits, Chequeado (based in Argentina) and Maldita (based in Spain). There are seven independent contractors in the United States supporting Factchequeado’s work. Five currently have contracts (all substantially similar) with the Argentinian non-profit, Chequeado. Two are working without a contract. They would now like these contractors to work under Factchequeado, rather than Chequeado.
The Factchequeado team is seeking a comprehensive consultation to ensure their practices comply with U.S. law and to discuss the best path forward to transition these consultants to Factchequeado (e.g., Should they sign a new contract? Should the existing contracts be reviewed and updated to comply with U.S. law?). If possible, they would also appreciate assistance with the transition itself based upon the advice given.
- Assistance from a Spanish-speaking attorney is preferred, but certainly not required.
